The A.G.A. Group undertake the construction of new lakes and ponds as well as remedial andDigger pic maintenance to existing stillwaters.  We can design the fishery to suit both recreational 'sport fishery' or ornamental purposes with associated features.  Because the A.G.A. Group has aquatic management as one of its core activities we can offer you many additional benefits as your construction contractor.  You can be sure that your lake or pond will be designed to maximise all of the benefits that nature can provide, by ensuring that the lake or pond profile is correct.  This enables the potential of aquatic plants to be fully realised, whilst making sure that the depths and contours are correct to encourage fish productivity and to also to ensure that any potentially problematic invasive aquatic plants are constrained by the environment itself.  Correct design and construction can save thousands of pounds in future maintenance of the fishery.

Construction includes items such as the inlet and outlet structures, a correctly designed and appropriate inlet structure can prolong the natural life of your pond by significantly reducing siltation.  Outlet structures to control the levels in the lake or pond can be, and often are a problem in older ponds where the structure has become worn out.  Ash Girdler is always involved in designing custom built controls such as monks (Plates 1& 2) to suit the specific lake or pond to optimise the serviceable life of the structure.

Plate 1.   The strength of a monk comes directly from its foundations and reinforcing.
Plate 2.   A nice smooth finish, it helps as they have to be watertight.

The A.G.A. Group are happy to undertake both large and small projects we are often asked to put in angling 'swim-stations', culverts, jetties and paths etc.

It is not always possible to create a pond or lake in an area of impermeable substrate sometimes we need to rely upon artificial sealing techniques to ensure that our waterbody does not leak.

The A.G.A. Group can supply and install a range of liners that are technically advanced to suit all needs and standards of waterproofing and containment.

To support the range of standard synthetic liners and to deal with leaks to clay ponds a range of geocomposite clay liners designed around ‘bentonite’ are also regularly supplied and installed as part of our liner service.

A.G.A. ‘Superflex’
Flexible Polypropylene Alloy (FPA) is our flagship liner—it gives the best of both worlds, combining the advantages of polypropylene with those of ethylene propylene rubber to create a highly flexible and robust membrane. This liner is ideal for containment applications.

Benefits
Tough
Flexible—conforms well to sub-grade irregularities and protrusions, as well as settlement and subsidence, under stress.
Copes well with steeper slopes
Environmental resilience– outstanding resistance to stress cracking, aggressive chemicals, weathering and UV.
Standard welding techniques deliver high joint integrity because of the wide melt transition window.
Easier to field repair
Site installation uncertainties are eliminated when prefabricated.
Low permeability to gases.

Applications

Ponds, lakes, reservoirs, irrigation lagoons and streams, canals dams and water features. Also used for capping landfills, toxic spill barriers and sub-ground proofing applications.

A.G.A. ‘Supertuff’’
A high-density polyethylene geomembrane manufactured from woven fabric, coated on both sides with an impermeable low-density polyethylene coating. Whilst pliable and lightweight this liner is strong and very durable.

Benefits
Cost effective impermeable membrane.
Available in a variety of gauges to suit most applications.
High tensile strength and good tear strength.
Easy to install, accommodating complicated configurations.
Available prefabricated.

Applications
Cost effective membranes for ponds, lakes and water features. Often the first choice for waste tips, as organic waste covers, or as temporary wraps for contaminated or odorous material.

A.G.A. ‘Superclay’
A woven geofabric (carrier) and reinforcement layer is embedded with powedered bentonite, this is topped by a non-woven synthetic geotextile layer.

Bentonite in powdered form is used to repair leaking banks, structures and dams. The A.G.A. Group are specialist in sealing leaking clay ponds using many technologies amongst which bentonite in particulate form is an important tool.

Benefits
Economic and environmentally sound alternative to synthetic liners, bituminous products and coatings.
Dense and slim with a high bond and shear strength.
Superior to conventional compacted clay lining methods.
High puncture and tear resistance.
Long-term protection against ground water seepage.

Applications
Super clay in its heaviest format is used to line canals, dams, ponds, reservoirs and landfill capping sites.
Super clay when utilised in its format with a polyethylene coated geotextile can be used for tunnels, piles, structures and foundation protection.
