Eco-Islands are a modular unit system that allows the creation of custom made floating islands.  They can incorporate unique solutions such as anti-predator fish refuges (artificial reefs), biological filters, anti-grazing frames and spawning medium.

Eco-Islands offer a unique range of benefits to lakes, reservoirs and ponds. Anchored off shore, they reduce bank erosion, the island dissipates the wave energy whilst emergent plants form an effective buffer to wave and wind action. On lakes where water sports take place Eco-Islandscan give protection to vulnerable stands of emergent and marginal plant life, whilst providing area markers and even forming barriers to separate activities.

Eco-Islands can bring about a dramatic improvement in the aesthetic appearance on most waters. Eco-Islands can be installed purely to improve and enhance the landscape value, whatever the primary driver for installation you can be sure that Eco-Islands will improve the vista of your water.

Eco-Islands provide valuable habitat for conservation and to encourage biodiversity. The creation of habitat sanctuaries both below and above the waterline will enhance the biodiversity of a host of species which might include : birds, dragonflies, invertebrates, amphibians and fish.

The root structure of an Eco-Island offers a unique opportunity to underwater dwelling organisms, when the root structure of the pre-established coir pallet is combined with our protection cage it forms an effective fish refuge from cormorant and other predation.  The extended root structure also makes ideal spawning medium for fish at the appropriate time of year. This will have a positive effect in encouraging a naturally and self-sustaining aquatic community and balanced ecology. The root system of Eco-Islands is the home for beneficial bacteria which naturally improve biological processes such as the nitrogen cycle. The root system in addition to providing excellent spawning medium for fish forms a matrix for absorbing dissolved pollutants and filtering and retaining suspended solids.

The edition of a unique anti-predator refuge (artificial reef) below an Eco-Island will make predation by cormorants, mink, otters and other avian predators a thing of the past. Artificial reefs are available as a ‘bolt on’ extra and are supplied as a customized solution to individual predation problems. These fish refuges which provide excellent protection from predation in winter also provide fry habitat in the summer.

An Eco-Island through spring, summer and autumn provides a larder of food for juvenile fish as well as providing features for anglers to fish too. The provision of cover for fish reduces stress which in turn will enhance the health of the fish stock.

Eco-Islands can minimise re-stocking costs and improve sporting opportunities by decreasing mortalities from direct predation and by providing refuges, which reduce the mortality associated with stress and predator avoidance. The provision of spawning habitat increases natural recruitment and reduces the disease risks associated with restocking.

Eco-Islands allow fishery managers to actively manager fisheries, they are fully mobile and do not obstruct activities such as seine netting.

Eco-Islands help reduce the incidents of blue-green algal blooms and the potential associated human health risks, attached to the release of toxins by the algae.

Eco-Islands provide shading thereby restricting the sunlight available to algae and at the same time they actively soak up the nutrients that algae rely upon for food.

Eco-Islands can have a mixture of pre-planted coir pallets or other appropriate substrate placed on them.
